Employment at the Research Foundation (RF) begins with the recruitment process and individuals becoming familiar with the policies that the RF follows to fulfill its obligation as a federal contractor. The process requires the RF to abide by Presidential Executive Order 11246 which prohibits job discrimination and requires affirmative action (see the Recruitment section under Human Resources for more information).
Individuals need to understand the responsibilities as a Principal Investigator (PI) or project staff member in regard to the hiring process. The first step in the hiring process is the paperwork. The request to recruit form should be completed by the PI indicating whether or not the hire is subject to a search waiver due to the reasons listed on the form. The employee must fill out the RF employment application form, which is easily accessible from the web site, as are the remaining forms. The employee assignment form has all the fields necessary to enter employee information, salary and charging data into the RF Business System. The forms must be completely typed, printed, and signed before we will accept it for processing.
Tax forms (Fed W-4 and State IT-2104) and the personnel information form must be filled out at the same time the rest of the assignment paperwork is completed. The prospective employee must visit the SPO HR office in Buckham B206 to complete an I-9 verifying employment eligibility in the U.S. This must be done within 3 business days after the start date, by law. If the employee or staff member responsible does not have access to the internet, the SPOHR office has computers available for their use. The information must be entered, the forms printed, and brought to the PI for signature. Completed forms can be e-mailed to rfempsvcs@buffalostate.edu.
